# Syncing signatures to Gmail

> Turn on the sync, push the signatures you already have, and read what each sync status means.

Once Google confirms the app is installed, turn the sync on from Blinq.

## Turn on the sync

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open your Google Workspace sync settings">
    In the Blinq [dashboard](https://dash.blinq.me), open **Email Signatures** and select **Sync to Google**. You can also reach the same settings from **Settings → Integrations**, under **Google** in the Email signatures section.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Turn on Sync New Email Signatures">
    Every signature created from now on syncs to its matching Gmail account automatically, and later edits to it sync too.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Push the signatures you already have">
    Select **Sync**. This applies to every active signature in your workspace.
  </Step>

  <Check>
    **Sync is on.** Return to the Email Signatures list to watch the status of each signature.
  </Check>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  **Leave Sync New Email Signatures switched on.** A signature created while it's off may not be pushable individually afterwards. Keeping it on means every signature gets a live link to its Gmail account from the moment it's created.
</Warning>

## Sync statuses

Each signature shows its own status in the Email Signatures list.

| Status              | Meaning                                                                                                                                                 |
| ------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Synced** | A matching Gmail account was found and the signature was written to it. |
| **Syncing** | Blinq is currently pushing the signature to Gmail. |
| **Out of sync** | The signature was synced, then edited in Blinq. The edit hasn't reached Gmail yet. |
| **Can't be synced** | The signature didn't reach Gmail. See [Troubleshooting](/integrations/google-workspace/troubleshooting) — the reason shown is often not the real cause. |

<Info>
  **Synced doesn't mean it's visible yet.** Blinq marks a signature **Synced** as soon as Google accepts it. Google then applies it to the mailbox, and that isn't immediate. If someone reports their signature missing straight after you sync, ask them to check again a little later before treating it as a failure.
</Info>

## What happens after a signature syncs

* Editing the signature in Blinq pushes the change to Gmail automatically.
* If someone changes their signature in Gmail by hand, Blinq overwrites it the next time it syncs.
* Only the default signature for **new emails** is set. Anyone who wants it on replies and forwards can select it themselves in Gmail's settings.
* Removing someone from Google Workspace stops them appearing in the sync status list.

<Warning>
  **Editing someone's card doesn't update their signature.** A signature created from a card isn't linked back to it, so later changes to the card — a new job title, a new phone number — don't flow through. Edit the signature itself, and the change syncs from there.
