Create a Zap: example configuration
Our previous page, Creating a trigger, covered configuring Blinq triggers. If you haven’t set one up yet, start there before you continue. Here’s an example of configuring actions with the New Contact trigger. It walks you through generating output in a Zap workflow whenever a new Blinq contact is added. With your Blinq Trigger for New Contact configured, follow the steps below:Create an action
- Click the Action event which is step 2 in your Zap workflow, directly after your trigger event.
- For this example, we’re going to configure output to Zapier’s Tables, which is a native feature within Zapier, meaning no additional accounts or set up required.
- Select Tables from the Products list, or search Tables in the top bar.
Select the action event
- Once Zapier Tables is selected as the Action App, select an Action event from the dropdown below.
- For this example we’re going to use Create Record. You can search the action list at the top.
- Once your Action event is selected, click Continue at the bottom of the Action configuration panel.
Configure the action
- If you don’t have any Zapier Tables created, you can click Create Table under the Table ID selector.
- Configure the Text Field option that appears. You can type text in here, but more importantly you can select Blinq specific fields by using
/or the Plus icon. - With the field mapping menu open and Blinq → New Contact as the trigger, you will see specific options to build the data output you want from a Blinq contact.
Build the data output
- To keep this example simple and understand the basics, let’s construct a simple new row from the Blinq contact field mapping. The field mapping will show data from your test contact where available.
- You can search the field mappings in the top bar of the pop-out menu.
- Select First Name as the first field mapping attribute.
- Select Last Name as the second field mapping attribute.
- Select Business Name as the third field mapping attribute.
- Select Primary Email as the fourth field mapping attribute.
- This should give us a clear output of
{First Name}{Last Name}{Business Name}{Primary Email}. - Now, let’s add some manual formatting to shape the output into something more usable. We can add manual formatting by typing directly in the text field between the Blinq mappings.
- For this example I’ve built the following, typing the spaces and the words
fromandContact:by hand between the field mappings:{First Name} {Last Name} from {Business Name}. Contact: {Primary Email}
Test and publish the action
- Once you’ve finished step 4, press Continue at the bottom of the Action configuration panel. Zapier prompts you to test the action.
- Once tested, you can review the results.
- Finish and activate your Zap workflow by clicking Publish. Once you publish, your Zap is live and runs automatically whenever it’s triggered.
See your output live
- For the Zapier Table we just configured, you can view your results in the table we created.
- In your Zapier dashboard, go to Assets → Tables.
- When you open the table you created, or the one used in the action, you’ll see your Blinq contact data as a row, with the text field populated as you configured it.
